20th General Meeting of International Mineralogical Association, 21-27 August 2010, Budapest, Hungry
Bonds and Bridges: Mineral sciences and their applications
Everything on natural and analogous solid matter and its interactions
Scientific profile
Contributions are welcome from all fields of research and education related to mineral sciences and their applications, the latter including artistic and other social approaches as well. The large IMA2010 meeting will be organised on a human scale: the number of parallel sessions will be limited, posters will be on display for longer periods.
Geographical bonds and bridges The IMA2010 will be a meeting for all continents. Human generations' bonds and bridges The IMA2010 will be a meeting for all generations. Conference date and venue August 21 (Saturday) - August 27 (Friday), 2010 The venue of IMA2010, the Danube Riverside Campus (Lágymányos) of the Eötvös University is close to the heart of Budapest. Architectural monuments, museums, shops are easy to reach from here. Budapest, a city of 2 million people along the Danube, offers exciting programmes for visitors. End of August weather is usually mild, pleasant for both field trips and cultural visits. A week in Budapest may give a pleasant tourist experience also to the accompanying guests.
The International Mineralogical Association (IMA), the oldest international scientific body of mineral sciences, organised its first General Meeting (GM) in 1959. The next meeting of the recently quadrennial world conference series, the twentieth IMA GM, is standing on, and will pay tribute to the solid basis built up by the results of two complete generations of mineral scientists, having met traditionally at IMA GMs.
Though internet demolishes distances, there are still no long term co-operations without personal communication. Researchers of different regions need to meet personally.
New paradigms need new generations. New generations need to relate to the past. Generations need to meet personally. At IMA2010 space will be allocated for discussions of small groups. Emphasis will be laid on helping participants with special needs (disabled participant service, child care, rest areas etc.)
Abstract submission
Participants are encouraged to submit papers for oral or poster presentations related to the subjects of the general or special sessions. Abstracts will be reviewed by the convenors for the content and also for the language. Standard oral and poster presentations will be of the same scientific credit. The convenors will select the papers for oral presentation; however, they will take authors’ preferences into consideration. Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their abstract(s) one week before the end of the normal rate registration period the latest. Papers included in the oral and poster sessions will appear in the Abstract Volume (CD) in the same format.

Procedure
Participants are encouraged to submit papers for oral or poster presentations related to the subjects of the general or special sessions. Abstracts will be reviewed by the convenors for the content and also for the language. Standard oral and poster presentations will be of the same scientific credit. The convenors will select the papers for oral presentation; however, they will take authors’ preferences into consideration. Papers included in the oral and poster sessions will appear in the Abstract Volume (CD) in the same format.
The submission fee per abstract is 30 EUR. For details, see the IMA2010 Registration fees & payment and the Grants information. This fee is refundable only if the abstract has not been accepted for presentation. Abstracts are omitted from the publications if the submission fee has not been transferred or waived. A second abstract submission to the Teaching of Mineral Sciences session is free. An author submitting an abstract is expected to attend the meeting and present her/his paper (there are no “print only” abstracts).
Abstracts must be prepared using the abstract template (a Microsoft Word doc file), which is downloadable from here. Only the pre-styles of the template are to be used. You can type or copy + paste the text of your abstract in the template according to the instructions given below and in the template. The setting of the template is A4 (21 cm horizontal, 29.7 cm vertical), portrait orientation. The abstract must not exceed the pre-set size of the template (8.2 cm horizontal, 25.7 cm vertical). Longer abstracts will be shortened or rejected. You can download a sample abstract (which also lists the applied styles) from here.
Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their abstract(s) one week before the end of the normal rate registration period the latest. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Acta Mineralogica-Petrographica, Abstract Series (electronic version + limited amount of hard copy).
Preparing your abstract
You can easily format your abstract by using the abstract template. If you are familiar with templates, skip the next section (Hints for using the template) and go directly to the section “Brief instructions by parts of the abstract”, which contains the most important instructions beyond the styles. See also the sample abstract. In case of any problem or uncertainty you can also refer to the page that contains detailed instructions.
Detailed instructions by parts of the abstract
If required, you can find detailed instructions concerning the different parts of the abstract in this page. You can download these detailed instructions from here.
Naming your abstract file
You can upload your abstract with any title, as the on-line registration and abstract submission system will automatically rename the submitted abstract as nr1.nr2.nr3.doc, where nr1 is the identification number of the registered (corresponding) author, nr2 is the identification number of the abstract and nr3 is the running number of the uploaded version (starting from 1 for the first version).
Submitting your abstract
Abstracts should be uploaded to the IMA2010 server via the Registration site of the meeting, according to the instructions given there. Please upload the abstract in the original DOC format of the template (with inserted figures, if any).
Click here to submit your abstract.
If you encounter any problem during the upload process please ask help via e-mail from the ima2010tech@ima2010.org address.
Modifying your submitted abstract
Modification of the submitted abstract is possible until the end of the abstract submission period. Abstracts can be modified only by uploading the new version of the abstract. Only the last version of the abstract sent before the closing of abstract submission period will be used during the review process.
