International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming ILP 2010, Italy
The 20th International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming (ILP 2010) will be held in Firenze, Italy, from Sunday 27th to Wednesday 30th June 2010. Further details and a call for papers will be posted soon.
ILP started in 1991 and is the premier international forum on logic-based and relational learning. The conference has recently explored several intersections to statistical learning and other probabilistic approaches, expanding research horizons significantly. Last year ILP was jointly organized in Leuven with SRL-2009, the International Workshop on Statistical Relational Learning; and MLG-2009, the 7th International Workshop on Mining and Learning with Graphs, bringing together over 120 participants. ILP 2010 will take place immediately after ICML 2010, which will be organized in Haifa, Israel.
Call for Papers
Papers are solicited in all areas of logic learning, relational learning, and multi-relational data mining, including, but not limited to:
- Theory: logical foundations, computational and/or statistical learning theory, generality orders, refinement operators, novel evaluation measures.
- Algorithms: probabilistic and statistical approaches, distance and kernel-based methods, learning with (semi)structured data, supervised, unsupervised, and semi-supervised relational learning, relational reinforcement learning, inductive databases, link discovery, multi-instance learning, predicate invention, logical and probabilistic inference, uncertainty reasoning.
- Representations and languages for logic-based learning: including datalog, first-order logic, description logics and ontologies, higher-order logic, probabilistic logical representations, mapping between alternative representations.
- Systems: systems that implement inductive logic programming algorithms with special emphasis on issues like optimization, parallelism, efficiency and scalability.
- Applications: innovative applications that use inductive logic programming systems as a key component, in areas such as bioinformatics, chemoinformatics, text/web analysis, medicine, multimedia, robotics, engineering, complex networks, cultural heritage, arts.
FORMAT
Submissions should be formatted using the provided style and not exceed 8 pages. Longer versions of accepted papers should be prepared later (see below). Each paper should clearly explain the problem it is trying to address, why the current state-of-the-art is unsatisfactory, how it is trying to improve over the state-of-the-art, a justification of the soundness of the new method and some empirical and/or theoretical results.
The address for electronic submissions is http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ilp2010
REPRODUCIBLE RESEARCH
Where relevant and possible, we strongly encourage authors to mention in their submission any implementations, source code, data sets, configuration scripts etc. that can be used to reproduce the submitted results. Additional materials can be attached as part of the submission, or should be made available through publicly accessible services.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
Authors should register title and abstract of their papers at least one week before the submission deadline. Papers can only be submitted electronically, in pdf format. Detailed instructions are available on the conference website
EVALUATION CRITERIA
Submissions will be refereed on the basis of technical soundness, novelty, potential impact, and clarity.
MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS POLICY
Submitted papers must not be under review for a journal or for another conference with published proceedings. Papers already accepted in other venues can be submitted to the special session (see below).
SPECIAL SESSION
In addition to original contributions, submissions based on high quality recently published/accepted work can be submitted to a special oral session. Papers accepted in this session will not be published in the conference proceeding but longer versions can be considered for the special issue if presenting significant extensions of work previously published in a conference. For special session submissions, original papers must be adequately cited and their status clearly stated in the covering letter.
REVIEW PROCESS AND PUBLICATION
All submissions will be reviewed by at least three referees. Reviewing will not be double-blind. On the basis of the reviews, it will be decided whether the submission is accepted for oral presentation, for presentation as a poster or rejected. Authors of accepted original submissions will be asked to prepare a final version of their papers for the post-conference proceedings, that will be published by Springer in the LNCS/LNAI series. There will be a limit of 16 pages for oral papers and 8 pages for posters.
Additionally, authors of the best accepted papers will be invited to submit a longer version to be considered for publication in the ILP 2010 special issue of the Machine Learning Journal (submission to this special issue is by invitation only). Longer versions of these papers should not exceed 20 pages in the MLJ format and will be reviewed according to the journal standards but in a short time frame (i.e. before the deadline for preparing the proceedings final version). Papers accepted for the special issue will not be published in the proceedings.
Papers accepted for the special session (see above) will be presented orally at the conference but will not appear in the proceedings.
