Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Conference May 25-26, 2010, USA

The Biomedical Science and Engineering Center (BSEC) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is hosting its second annual Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Conference May 25-26. The theme of this conference is Biomedical Research and Analysis in Neuroscience (BRAiN). Areas of interest include neural applications of Biomedical Informatics, Biomedical Modeling and Simulation, Measurement Science, and Neuroscience/Neuroanatomy topics related to the sensory cortex and retina. Special emphasis in these topics is on brain injuries and neuroregeneration.

We are accepting papers and posters for presentation at the conference. Papers will be published in the poster proceedings which will be published online in IEEE Xplore. Papers may be designated for consideration as either podium presentations or poster presentation. Presentations will be 15 minutes in duration with 5 minutes for questions. Only a limited number of papers will be accepted for podium presentations, and those not accepted for presentation will automatically be considered for poster presentations.

Participants are invited to electronically submit original, unpublished research contributions or experience reports not concurrently submitted elsewhere. All papers must be written in English. They will be refereed for quality, originality, and relevance by the program committee. Click the Author’s Toolkit navigation link for complete details and templates for submission.

Papers dealing with at least two of the three areas of interest above or demonstrate how interdisciplinary research in these areas would benefit medical problem solving and specific applications will be given priority.  We are particularly interested in the following problem and technology areas, but papers and posters are not limited to these areas:

  1. Neural application of Biomedical Informatics

    1. Data mining and accessibility

    2. Data integration

    3. Multi-modal data

    4. Other computational tools

  2. Biomedical Modeling and Simulation

    1. Predictive models

    2. Mechanistic models

    3. Statistical models

    4. 3D/4D simulations and visualizations

    5. Models of behavioral outcomes

  3. Measurement Science

    1. Imaging and Mapping the Brain (Functional, Molecular, and Cellular)

    2. Brain-Computer Interface

    3. Neural Signal Processing and Modeling

    4. Neuro-Nanotechnology

    5. Neural Prostheses

    6. Neuro-Robotics

  4. Neuroscience and Neuroanatomy Topics

    1. Sensory cortex

    2. Retina

Posters may deal with any of these topics or others that may have cross-cutting potential.
